Family law cases are complicated matters and can become even more difficult for everyone involved when there are allegations of domestic abuse. Unfortunately, there is a trend towards an increase in the use of false accusations of domestic violence to gain an advantage in family court. One in ten American couples experience intimate partner violence every year, so the reality exists, but can also be taken advantage of.
In Miami, there is a unique branch of the court which is completely designated to children who have been abused, neglected, or abandoned. It's the Dependency Division of the Juvenile Court, and its primary mission is to secure the safety and well-being of minors who are presented to it, generally by the Florida Department of Children and Families. The court relies on a specific timeframe, during which it assists with either the reunification of families or the permanent placement of children in stable, loving environments.
