How To Avoid a Holiday DUI.

by | Dec 22, 2021 | DUI/DWI, DUI/DWI |

During the Holidays, more likely than not, there will be alcohol available in different events. A lot of people don´t intend to drink and drive, let alone get a DUI arrest. But this can happen because they don´t plan ahead, or don´t realize how alcohol affects them, or are too intoxicated to think properly.

It is important to avoid getting behind the wheel while being impaired due to alcohol consumption. Here are some ideas that can help you avoid getting a DUI during the holiday celebrations:

1. Have a plan: If you are thinking of celebrating this holiday season, it is wise to have a plan. Think about how you will be celebrating, where, and with whom. Most holiday celebrations will have alcohol available, so consider the amount of alcohol you will be consuming and what you will do if you indeed start drinking.

2. Remain sober if you plan on driving: The most obvious way of avoiding a DUI is to remain sober, so consider not drinking during the holiday events if you are planning to drive somewhere after the celebration finishes. Be the designated driver, and make sure to let people know, so they avoid offering you alcoholic beverages.

3. Celebrate at your house or a hotel: Hosting a holiday party at your home is a smart way to keep yourself off the road and avoid a DUI. At the end of the day, you can have a great party however you choose to and can consume alcohol without the risk of being on the road.  If you choose this alternative, you can also be vigilant of the attendees’ sobriety, and offer them somewhere to spend the night if you observe that they should not be driving.
On the other hand, if you don´t feel like doing all the work of hosting a party at your house, you can celebrate at a hotel, where the amount of effort put into it is not as much. The good thing about this option is that everybody can stay away from the road while being under the influence.

4. Get a rideshare service: If none of the other options are appealing or at all possible, we encourage you to get a rideshare service if you need to go anywhere after having some drinks. It is inexpensive, especially if you compare it with the fines and other consequences that a DUI can bring to the table, and it is safer for everybody out there.
