Supreme Court Rules that Police Can't Hold Suspects for Drug Sniffing Dogs

The Supreme Court recently made a ruling in the case of Rodriguez vs. United States of America that says police cannot detain a suspect at a traffic stop to wait for a drug-sniffing dog to arrive. The Nebraska case started as a routine traffic stop, but turned into a test of the parameters of the Fourth Amendment.

Baseball Agents Cleared of Wrongdoing in Biogenesis Probe

Baseball agents Sam and Seth Levinson, founders of the sports agency ACES, Inc. have just been cleared in an investigation by the Major League Baseball Players Association. It was determined that the agents did not have knowledge of steroid and other PED use by their clients at the Biogenesis clinic.

Six Indicted in Residential International Mortgage Fraud Scheme

In February four Miami residents and two Brazil residents were charged with international mortgage fraud. They are reportedly involved in fraudulent mortgage loans for residential properties in Miami-Dade in Palm Beach counties. From October 2005 to May 2007, the six individuals were allegedly involved in $9 million in fraudulent loans. Although charges were pressed in February, the case wasn't unsealed until Monday, April 6.

Psychiatrist Found Guilty as Medicare Fraud Convictions Continue

Psychiatrist Barry Kaplowitz was convicted by a jury yesterday in another case of Medicare fraud In South Florida. Kaplowoitz was on the payroll at Hollywood Pavilion, a Broward County psychiatric facility. The same jury also found Tiffany Foster, who had served in an administrative capacity at the same facility guilty. Hollywood Pavilion, has the subject of a prominent Medicare fraud case.

Police Officer in Miami Arrested for Misconduct

Miami-Dade police officer Joshua Zacarias was arrested on Tuesday, February 3 and charged with official misconduct. The charge stems for a hit-and-run accident that took place at the Miami Lakes district station. Zacarias originally reported that the damage was caused when someone vandalized his car with a key.

Internet Model Sentenced to 5 Years in Prison for Vehicular Homicide in Miami

Early in the morning of August 22, 2010, Lindsay Armada was headed home from a night of partying with friend at Downtown Miami's late-night hotspots, Nocturnal and Space. Armada was driving on the Palmetto Expressway when she tried to pass a car, but instead struck a curb and lost control of her car. State troopers reported that Armada then crashed into a tree on the side of the highway. The crash killed two of her passengers, Nicolas Garzon and Luis Suarez, and left the third passenger, Ashley Tellez, in a body cast for six months. A witness estimated that Armada was traveling at a speed of about 90 miles per hour.

Recently, Miami-Dade prosecutors charged Raymundo Rodriguez Fernandez in the March 2014 death of Cheri Rollins. Rollins was a well-respected advocate for gay and lesbian rights and a vocal proponent against school privatization in Philadelphia, where she lived.

Carlos Acevedo, convicted MLB steroid dealer, sentenced to 3 ½ years in prison

A few weeks back we wrote about the pending performance-enhancing drug use by Alex Rodriguez. The investigation cited eight defendants including Carlos Acevedo who partnered with Anthony Bosch. Acevedo and Bosch shut down their anti-aging clinic called Biogenesis of America in 2013 just before the investigation began. We know now that the clinic was in part used to sell to performance-enhancing drugs to Major League Baseball (MLB) players.
